Knee Boarding

This is what it looks like to start out.
You have to pull yourself up when the boat "hits it"



This is Kassidy on the right.....



You then have to adjust your knees on the board so they are in the right slots.


Next you strap yourself on.....

Then you take a hold of the "reins!"

Zach got up on his first try. Brianna taught Zach but she never uses the knee straps so neither did Zach.

Okay, here I am! I got right up......
good thing I had a life jacket on... my swim suit straps did not like to stay up!



I took a hold of the reins, along side Becky. However, I did not last very long. It totally hurt my lower back. Becky told me to use my ab muscles. Yeah, right, what ab muscles. After 4 vertical c-sections they just do not exist!!! I tried it, I did it and I did not get back on....







Here is Emily and Audrey. Emy Sue did so good!! She just rode along. Most of the time she just held onto the board...



What a trooper, along for the ride and they were always long ones!

They actually had a great time together.....and it was a long ride, well actually they both fell a few times........

Dave is such a great driver. He knows how to THROW you across the wake to where you are holding on for dear life!!

I am not sure how we survived the many bumps and landings!
It is funny how you laugh so much as you are riding. It really is fun....despite the bruises I still have!




Everytime we would land, Kevin's elbow would land on my thigh!! Nothing you can really do about it, everyone is just holding on hoping they don't get thrown in the water!!

Dave was great at steering the boat around to come gather us up.....
It was a great ride, I swear it was at LEAST 20 minutes and it probably took that many gallons of gas to pull us!!

We had a great time tubing behind the boat. There were some outrageous bumps and landings. My right side of my body is bruised!!

Dave loved to get us outside of the wake and he would drive the boat around in so many circles making waves.....then, bam, we would hit them and sometimes we would land on the tube, other times in the water!

She Caught a Big One!!

You know I have told you what a lucky fisherman Emily is......well....
This past week we went to Jordanelle Reservoir to go camping and boating with our great friends the Rumfields. (watch for the great post on that trip, with some fabulous pictures). Emily and some of the kids were fishing. I told Audrey to have them move to another spot away from the grass that was coming up from the water. The kids' fishing hooks kept getting caught. Anyhow, the kids moved places to where there were more rocks at the waters edge. While we were getting ready to go out on the boat I hear someone yell something about a fish. I thought the kids had caught one. Well, here comes Kevin over to the picnic table carrying a crying Emily. Apparently as she was walking through the grass, a fishing hook....that some idiot left behind on some fishing wire.....got caught in her calf. Here is a lovely picture.

It was quite traumatic for her. When it happened she had asked Audrey to get it out of her leg. Audrey gave it a slight tug and knew it was not going anywhere. That is when Kevin was called. Upon examining it, Dave (who has been an EMT and is now a highway patrol guy) and Kevin figured they would have to poke it out through her skin, cut the barb and pull it back through. PAIN!!!!!!! Dave asked if Em was up on her immunization, and namely the tetanus shot. I said she is 8 and she should be.....well the decision was made to go to Park City. We found on Kevin's handy dandy GPS an Urgent Care Center. The doctor gave her a skin numbing solution and then a few shots of lidocaine and then proceeded to poke the fishing hook through her skin. Kevin said he had a hard time getting it to poke through, but when all was said and done, we had a happy camper who was ready to go boating. We were only gone an hour and a half. The doc said Em had her shot when going into kindergarten so she was fine that was. Sure, Kevin and Dave could have done it all themselves.....but paying a $35 co-pay was so much better than a little girl screaming from pain and being traumatized the rest of her life! I am not even sure what the moral of this story is.....except maybe look for stray fishing hooks????

Scottish Festival

I took the kids down to the park last night to check this out. Every year it is held and every year we do not go! So since Kevin was on his way home from Baltimore I figured it would help pass the time. Not too much was going on, however, they did have dancers doing a Scottish jig or what ever you call it. There was some clogging and some high kicks. The talent was definitely there. The bagpipes and drum competitions are going on today but our day is filled so we won't be making it over again. Although, while we were there we were able to look up our last name to see if we belonged to a clan. Miller was listed as well as Nelson. For $20 they would print off your family crest and history of your clan. The lady asked if we came from Germany or Scotland or England. I guess those last names come from all of the countries...I think we may have all but I am just not sure!?

To the bank we go!

Today I opened savings accounts for Emy and Zach.....
Emy was not too excited I only left her with $20 at home although Zach was fine with whatever.
What gets me is when I opened the accounts, youth ones, I had to sign a lot of papers. They wanted so much information to take the money. I even had to give out my dad's name and address in case we move and forget to close the accounts??!! Finally I had to sign a paper saying I would not use the kids' accounts for my personal use. This included the older girls who already have accounts. You've got to be kidding me. I signed away, however. One good thing this bank, or credit union does, is deposit money into the kids accounts who get good grades. They do this once a year. I told the kids at least someone pays them for their good grades, even if it is only $8....it's $8 more then they had.

4th of July in Idaho

I wish I had pictures to post!! But lo, I left the camera on the table at home!!!!!!
We had a fun trip to Idaho. We went on a hike to Cress Creek where the kids walked only 1 -1/2 miles up and down. We saw some pretty country and thankfully no snakes!!!!
We visited with grandma and grandpa and the kids floated the canal behind their house.
The fourth brought about our annual "fishing booth" in the park. It was 50 cents, again, and the prizes weren't too bad, so I was told! The kids all made money this year....Emily is not too excited that I am putting her portion in the bank! Fireworks were good, although they seemed shorter this year. Must be the fire in the fireworks factory in China! Saturday we went boating with some cousins while grandpa drove the boat. Of coarse I flew off the tube after a while. The water was cold (in my opinion!). All of the kids got a turn bouncing on the waves and riding in the boat. Kevin did not get in the water.....oh wait he did though, his dad told him to jump in and pull the boat to the dock.....with the wallet in his pocket. I guess it was just about the same as when I wash his wallet in the laundry!! It was a fun day. We were able to have Kevin's parents show us pictures on a projector of their mission to Yap. It was fun to hear about their time there and listen to their excitement over their experiences.
Sunday we went to church where our little niece/cousin was blessed. We had a yummy lunch with family and then we went to visit Kevin's grandma who is 91. She could not believe how big the kids are getting!
It was a fun filled vacation with family!

We had a lot of fun camping and canoeing with our friends. The sun was warm and the water was cold! The food was great and the bugs were plentiful!
We love making memories with our kids and we look forward to going camping again......next week!
